MOUNTSTANDFAST EXHIBITION 2025

Jamar “LEX” Silva

HOME AWAY FROM HOME “ 5 Years on Barbados Soil”

19.12.2025

There is a distinct shift in frequency between the islands of the Caribbean, a nuance often missed by the outsider but felt deeply by the native. In Mountstandfast, Jamaican born photographer & Director Jamar “LEX” Silva explores this shift, documenting a five year love affair with his adopted home of Barbados.

This exhibition is an unguarded look at the people and places that dismantled and rebuilt his artistry. Jamar’s work rejects the polished tourist gaze in favour of something grittier and more honest: the art of lounging, the intimacy of the diaspora, and the heavy, humid reality of heartbreak. It is in Barbados that Silva developed his visual language, a yin and yang of shadow and light that mirrors his own personal growth.

Silva’s approach is refreshing in its rejection of perfectionism. “The moment and the process is where I'm hooked,” he says. Mountstandfast is the result of that obsession, a collection of memories where the soundtrack is just as important as the visual.

“I don’t chase the final thing,” Jamar admits. “The moment and the process is where I'm hooked. The road paved the way and the soundtracks are attached to significant memories.”
